Ground control and turning: outside-the-foot
by April Kater and Robert "Butch" Lauffer
Receiving with the outside of the foot is deemed safer simply because of the body positioning.
The player can arrive square or sideways on the ball. She can allow more of her body to shield the ball from the opponent versus using the inside of the foot.
As the ball arrives, the foot should be extended forward and inward. when contact is made, the foot guides the ball as the body pivots on the non-kicking foot and turns in one fluid motion.
Again, the player should always try and take a look at the space behind.
